Smart clothes: Distributed light measuring and light producing instruments

Treating the camera in a different way -- regarding it as a measurement intsrument that provides a set of photometric measurements leads to a different framework in which to consider electronic imaging.

In the future, perhaps smart clothes will give us the ability to capture not only a holographic description of the scene, but also provide information about the way that the scene responds to light. Through a series of measurements, it is possible to synthesize images at a later time. We will no longer need to use cameras to take pictures, but will, instead, make photometric measurements and synthesize images from these measurements.

Holography is one of the ways of taking pictures without a camera. Imagine holographic clothing that absorbs light and returns a description of the wavefront of that light. Imagine also that this clothing could produce light as well. ``Lightspace'' is proposed as a representation for photometric measurements of the way that a scene responds to light.
